Biker Church opens Thrift Store

Hard Core Disciples for Jesus Christ, also known as the Biker Church, has opened a Thrift Store at 433 West Broadway.

Tennessee - The store opened Monday in the garage behind the house, which is located next to West End Exxon.

"We are going to use the funds raised from the thrift store to operate our other ministries," Preacher Ray Slater explained. "We are here to serve the community so our ministry has become multi-faceted."

Looking ahead, he said plans are for a women's drug rehabilitation center to be located in the house while a men's drug rehabilitation center will be located in Del Rio.

"We want to offer in-patient rehabilitation to those who need those services," he said. "We want to reach outside the box and offer a variety of services to meet the community's needs."

He said the items in the thrift store are very reasonably priced so they are affordable. Preacher Ray emphasized the church will still have its regular giveaway day every Wednesday.

"In no way will this impact the weekly giveaway day," he said. "Every Wednesday, as usual, we will give away clothing, food, and other items from the church."

Items for the thrift store have been donated and donations are constantly being accepted, he explained. The thrift store items include clothing, toys, appliances, and furniture. Donations may be dropped off at the store, or for more information or larger donations, call Preacher Ray.

He pointed out the ministry does have 501c3 status so any donations are tax-deductible. He said donors who would like a receipt for tax purposes would be provided with one.

"We will accept leftover yard sale items, or just anything you want to get rid of," he said. "Proceeds will go toward our community outreach ministries. We need to feed and take care of people here in our community."

The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. He emphasizes everyone is welcome to shop at the store.

"This is for the community. Anybody and everybody is welcome here," he said.

Volunteers are needed to sort items and greet customers at the store. He explained delivery would be available for those who purchase larger items, such as furniture and appliances from the thrift store. Delivery charges will be $25 for in-county deliveries and $50 for out-of-county deliveries.

"Those delivery charges will go directly to the person making the delivery. It is for them to make some money and to of course, reimburse them for travel expenses," he said.

For more information about the church, the thrift store, or any of the church's ministries, call Preacher Ray at (865) 237-2139.
