Amanda Overmyer, the resident biker babe on American Idol, is the first to bring scandal to the seventh season.
Indiana - Amanda is a nurse who likes to let loose riding her Harley-Davidson Sportster, had made it to the top 20 of American Idol this week. Her accomplishments have been marred by two scandals coming to light. In 2006 she was convicted of a DUI and someone from her hometown of Mulberry, Indiana has been shopping some compromising photos of the Idol wanna be around the tabloids.
Nursing may be her profession, but her love of music has always been a passion. She first became a member of an Indiana band as a teenager and the garnered a following as the front woman for Steeleto and Ruinaces. Her most favorite performances were gigs sponsored by ABATE of Indiana.
While performing for ABATE's events, she was able to marry two passions, music and motorcycles. She began riding a metric cruiser and then later "graduated to a big girl bike." She comes from a riding family joining her Dad CJ, mom, and brother as people who enjoy time in the saddle.
Overmyer would not be the first American Idol hopeful to be exposed online in a photo scandal. The National Enquirer release a story that someone was out to sell photos of Amanda nude. And just like any good opportunist, they are asking for some serious coin for the alleged pictures. The National Enquirer first broke the Vanessa Hudgens photos scandal. It took only 3 weeks after the weekly entertainment magazine reported that those pictures were being shopped around before they presented themselves on the world wide web.
This comes on the cusp of a recent report of a DUI arrest and conviction in 2006. The Mulberry, Ind., native was pulled over in Crawfordville, after authorities clocked her driving more than twice the speed limit in a 45 MPH zone. She also ran a red light, according to Splash. Overmyer had a blood alcohol level of .108.
The National Enquirer reported that Overmyer spent six hours in the Montgomery County Jail before her bail was posted, by Casey Taylor, her fiance. She reportedly pled guilty to the charge. She has since paid her deb to society over the transgression.
Amanda made it past the second week of eliminations singing "Carry on My Wayward Son" by Kansas. She originally auditioned with a Janis Joplin song, "Turtle Blues" and after judge Simon Cowell requested a second song, she sang "Traveling Band" by Creedance Clearwater Revival. She sang "Baby, Please Don't Go" an old blues standard to breeze through week 1.
The Judges initially fell in love with Amanda. "I love you, I love you, I Love you... I think you are authentic and real," said Paula Abdul at her initial audition.
After her week 1 performance, Randy Jackson praised her outfit and said that he loved "the bluesy, rock thing!"
Week 2 didn't go so well for Amanda. The judges didn't agree with her song choice and didn't think that she was able to sing it that well either. Simon actually had the first outwardly negative comment about her and called her contrived.
Will the scandal keep Amanda from moving forward?
